Qatar Work Visa: 07 Proven Steps to Get It Fast and Avoid Scams
Every year, thousands of workers from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and other South Asian countries dream of building a better life in Qatar. The salaries are good, the opportunities are real, and Qatar genuinely welcomes skilled and hardworking people from across the world.
But between that dream and reality, there is a dangerous gap filled with dishonest agents, fake offer letters, and people who take your money and deliver nothing.
The good news? Qatar’s government has built a transparent, fully online system that lets you verify every single step of your visa process yourself, without trusting anyone blindly. If you know how to use it, no agent can ever deceive you.
In this guide, I am going to walk you through the complete Qatar work visa process, step by step, with proof at every stage, exactly how it works in real life.
Qatar Work Visa Application and the First Status Update
The process begins when your employer, whether it is a construction company, a restaurant, a hotel, or any other business, applies for your Qatar work visa through Qatar’s system.
As soon as the application is submitted, the first status you will see on the Ministry of Interior (MOI) website is:
“Under Process”
This simply means your application has been received and is being reviewed by the Qatar government. Do not panic if it stays here for a day or two, that is completely normal.
Shortly after, the status will update to:
“Outside Under Process”
This is the green light you have been waiting for. It means you are now eligible to proceed with the medical examination. The visa process has officially moved forward.
Medical Appointment, What Happens and Who Pays
Once your status shows “Outside Under Process,” your employer needs to take action. Here is how it works:
Your employer pays 500 Riyals to the Qatar government through their Hukoomi card. This payment unlocks access for them to book your medical appointment through the QVC (Qatar Visa Center) website.

Your medical appointment letter will be sent to you. It includes your name, address, passport number, visa number, and the medical fee of approximately USD 137 (around 500 Riyals). The letter also contains a detailed map and a step-by-step breakdown of what happens during your visit.
During the medical exam, you will go through:
- Biometric enrollment (fingerprints and photo)
- Chest X-ray
- Blood and laboratory tests
- Eye examination
Medical centers are available in major cities. If you are in Pakistan, you can go to Islamabad or Karachi. If you are in India, centers are available in Delhi, Chennai, and Mumbai. The appointment can also be rescheduled online if needed, just enter your passport and visa number on the QVCSI portal.
How to Track Your Medical Result Online
After your medical examination, you do not need to wait for anyone to tell you the result. You can check it yourself.
Here is how:
- Go to the QVC website and click on “Track Application”
- Enter your passport number and visa number
- Fill in the captcha code and hit Enter
You will see a checklist of statuses:
If all five boxes are ticked, your medical is approved and you are ready for the next stage.
This is one of the most powerful tools available to workers. It means no agent can lie to you about your medical status, you can see it for yourself, whether you are sitting in Lahore, Dhaka, or Mumbai.
Visa Issuance, “Ready to Print”
Once the Qatar Ministry of Interior reviews your approved medical and clears your application, your visa will be issued automatically. The status on the MOI website will change to:
“Ready to Print”
At this point, your employer pays an additional 200 Riyals and downloads your visa as a PDF. You can also do this yourself by visiting the MOI Qatar website:

- Go to Inquiries, then Visa Services

- Click the search icon
- Enter your passport number, select your country, fill the captcha, and click search
- Your full visa details will appear, including validity date, employer name, and more
- Click “Print Visa” to download your entry permit PDF
One very important thing to understand: This printed visa is only an Entry Permit. It gets you through the airport when you first arrive in Qatar. After that, it has no further use. Your actual long-term residency document, the Qatar ID, comes later.
Protectorate Stamp (For Pakistani Workers Only)
If you hold a Pakistani passport, there is one more step before you fly, which is getting a Protectorate Stamp from Pakistan’s Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment.
This is a government requirement that officially registers you as a Pakistani worker going abroad on an employment visa. A small fee is charged in Pakistani Rupees, and you must visit an immigration office in your city.
Offices are available across Pakistan, including in:
- Islamabad (Head Office)
- Lahore
- Karachi
- Rawalpindi
- Peshawar
- Quetta
- Multan
- Sialkot
- DG Khan
- Malakand
- Azad Jammu & Kashmir
You can find the exact address, officer names, and contact numbers on the Bureau of Emigration’s official government website.
Note: Indian and Bangladeshi nationals do not require this step.
Arriving in Qatar
You buy your flight ticket, land at Hamad International Airport in Doha, and present your entry permit visa. Your employer or their representative will receive you and take you to your accommodation.
During your medical process, you would have already signed an employment contract. Make sure you keep a copy of it. The contract outlines your salary, job title, and accommodation arrangements, all of which your employer is legally required to honor.
Getting Your Qatar ID (Residence Permit)
Within 30 days of your arrival, your employer is legally obligated to process your Qatar ID card, which is your official residence permit and the document that allows you to legally live and work in Qatar long-term.
- Qatar ID fee: 1,220 Riyals (paid by the employer)
- Must be renewed annually
You can check the status of your Qatar ID online using the MOI website at any time, even if you are outside Qatar. Just enter your passport number under “Other Inquiries” and you will see:
- Qatar ID expiry date
- Passport expiry date
- Residency permit expiry
- Driving license expiry (if applicable)
This is especially useful to verify whether your employer has actually renewed your ID when they say they have.
Full Qatar Work Visa Cost Breakdown
| Step | What It Covers | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Medical Application | Qatar government processing | 500 Riyals |
| Visa Printing | Entry permit download | 200 Riyals |
| Qatar ID | Annual residence permit | 1,220 Riyals |
| Total | ~1,920 Riyals | |
Here is something critically important: Qatar law requires the employer to pay all visa-related fees, not the worker. You should not be paying for your own visa. Yet many workers end up paying agents anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000+ Riyals unnecessarily, simply because they do not know the system.
Now you do.
How to Verify an Offer Letter Before You Pay Anyone Anything
Received a job offer letter from Qatar? Before you hand a single rupee to any agent, do this:
- Look at the company name and address on the offer letter
- Search for the company online and find their official phone number
- Call the company directly and mention the reference number on your offer letter
- Ask them to confirm: did they send this offer letter?
If the agent gave you a fake letter, this one phone call will expose it immediately. Fraudulent agents manufacture professional-looking offer letters all the time. A two-minute phone call is all it takes to protect yourself from losing lakhs of rupees.
The One Website That Can Protect You From Every Scam
The MOI Qatar website (portal.moi.gov.qa) is your single most powerful tool throughout this entire journey. From it, you can independently verify:
- Your visa application status
- Your medical test results
- Whether your Qatar ID has been renewed
- Your passport and residency expiry dates
- Traffic fines on your vehicle, including photos of the violation
No agent, no employer, and no middleman can lie to you about any of these things if you know how to check them yourself. Make it a habit to verify everything directly on the official government portal.
Final Thoughts
Qatar is a country of genuine opportunity. It welcomes workers who come with the right paperwork, the right intentions, and a clear understanding of the process. The visa system is transparent, government-backed, and fully verifiable online.
The only people who benefit from your confusion are fraudulent agents.
Bookmark this guide. Share it with a friend who is thinking about working in Qatar. And remember, the total cost of a Qatar work visa should never exceed 2,000 Riyals, most of which your employer is supposed to pay anyway.
Stay informed. Stay safe. And welcome to Qatar.
